Marie Stopes: Killing babies for profit

Marie Stopes International (MSI), was started by Marie Stopes, a eugenicist. MSI is involved in the daily slaughter of unborn babies.

Taryn Hodgson of Africa Christian Action, wrote an article on Marie Stopes and her evil organization, especially with the commemoration of the legalization of abortion on demand in South Africa on 1 February 1997. Because of this, many people will be involved in protesting the legalization of abortion in South Africa over this time. See the end of Taryn's article below for more information on how you can be involved in these protests! I will be at the protest in Boksburg, so if you decide to join us, please comes over to say "Hi!" I will be the one with the camera!

Hodgson article follows:

MARIE STOPES EXPOSED

Marie Stopes is an international abortion organisation that grew directly out of the early 20th century eugenics movement. It operates in 43 countries. In 2009 there were 626 Marie Stopes abortuaries worldwide, including 29 in South Africa. In 2009 Marie Stopes SA launched ten micro-clinics, offering contraception and abortions in townships in Gauteng and KwaZulu Natal.

Marie Stopes carries out over a third of the officially recorded abortions in South Africa. They rake in over R160 million (conservative estimate of gross income) each year*.

Expanding Their Global Pro-Death Agenda
On top of their large profits, Marie Stopes International (MSI) receives funding from the Netherlands Ministry for Development Cooperation, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). UK Department for International Development, USAID and the European Union to expand their abortuaries in Third World countries. After the lift of the 'global gag' rule (Mexico City Policy) by the Obama administration, the US government now donates money to the International Planned Parenthood Association and Marie Stopes. The profits earned from abortuaries in First World countries also go towards expanding MSI's influence and impact in poor communities.

Illegal Abortions
In a video (see below) recorded by the Population Research Institute, at the Global Safe Abortion Conference in London 2007, Paul Cornellisson, Marie Stopes Programme Director for South Africa, brazenly admitted that his organization "does illegal abortions all over the world" and therefore they should encourage and assist women in countries across South Africa's borders to commute to Johannesburg to have abortions. (See the YouTube clip here).

Cornellisson suggested his organization could consider opening a centre in Namibia, where abortion is only permitted in certain circumstances, or transporting women from there into South Africa. "There's various options, you know, once we open a centre there," he said. These remarks are a tacit indication that Marie Stopes may be involved in providing abortions in countries where abortion is illegal (or only legal in certain circumstances) under the auspices of 'family planning' and 'reproductive health'.

Callous and Cruel
A woman was told she was "imagining [her] pain" and was not given sufficient medical treatment after having an abortion at the Marie Stopes abortuary in Cape Town in December 2007.

The woman also complained to Christian Action that her partner was not allowed to join her during the consultation prior to the abortion, despite being told that this is allowed in the clinic's advertising. She received no counselling whatsoever and was given no opportunity to ask questions or to discuss the matter with her boyfriend.

Another woman who had an abortion at a clinic in Pretoria complained of similar treatment. She reported, "I was sent home with pain tablets. A week later I was still bleeding. I then rushed back to the clinic. The doctor was not there and the nurse took it upon herself to do another procedure, this time without a sedative. I thought I was going to die from the pain. I remember shouting out from the pain and the nurse's assistant put her hand over my mouth. She told me to shut up. I cringe when I think of that day."

In September 2006, a woman was awarded R500 000 in damages by a Pretoria Court because of a botched abortion at a clinic which resulted in an emergency hysterectomy, and left her unable to bear any more children.

Christian Action encourages women who have received similar inadequate medical attention, or abusive treatment, by abortuary staff, to report their experiences to the Justice Alliance of South Africa (021 - 713 3259 or, jasalaw@mweb.co.za for possible legal action.

Deceptive advertising
Abortion providers advertise on their wall outside their clinic that they offer "safe and pain free" abortions. Several years ago the Christian Action Network challenged this claim with the Advertising Standards Authority. However, the case was unsuccessful, as it was deemed that the "constitutional right" to an abortion outweighed such concerns for integrity in advertising.

Abortion is never safe or pain free. It leaves one dead and one wounded.

Who was Marie Stopes?
Marie Stopes, (1880-1958) a paleobotanist, was, like Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger, a prominent campaigner for eugenics policies that found their full expression in the Nazi mass euthenasia programmes before and during World War II. (Eugenics is the study of, or belief in, the possibility of improving the qualities of humans, or a people group by such means as discouraging reproduction by persons having genetic defects, or presumed to have inheritable undesirable traits, or encouraging reproduction by persons presumed to have inheritable desirable traits.)

In "Radiant Motherhood", Stopes called for the "sterilization of those totally unfit for parenthood to be made compulsory." In "The Control of Parenthood" she said that "utopia could be reached in my life time" if she had power to "legislate compulsory sterilization" of the "insane", "feebleminded", "revolutionaries" and "half-castes."  Following her death in 1958, a large part of Stopes' personal fortune went to the Eugenics Society.

Her organisation was first called the Society for Constructive Birth Control and Racial Progress and her clinics were situated in poor areas, to reduce the birth rate of the local residents. Not that Stopes wanted the working class to stop having children altogether. On the contrary, she was also a supporter of child labour: "Not many years ago the labourer's child could be set to work early and could very shortly earn his keep... The trend of legislation has continuously extended the age of irresponsible youth in the lower and lower middle classes."

As came to public attention years later, she was a personal as well as political devotee of Adolf Hitler: "Dear Herr Hitler, Love is the greatest thing in the world: so will you accept from me these (poems) that you may allow the young people of your nation to have them?" These words from Stopes were written in August 1939, just a month before Britain went to war with Nazi Germany.

Speak Up for Those Who Cannot Speak for Themselves
Christians need to vigilantly expose and oppose Marie Stopes International's global pro-death agenda and murderous practices by praying, preaching on and participating in the Fight for Life.

"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves." Proverbs 31:8

"Rescue those being led away to death, hold back those staggering towards slaughter." Proverbs 24:11.

* This estimate is based on Marie Stopes's figures for clients they saw in 2008 in South Africa (96 458). They charge roughly R2 000 per abortion (certain abortions are more or less depending on the pregnancy trimester and abortion method). If say only 80 000 of those clients had an abortion at R 2 000 each then they would have earned a gross income of about R160 million in 2008.
