Nut jobs limb-ping!

The human race will never cease to amaze me! It doesn't surprise me, though!

There are people out there that would like to have their healthy limbs amputated! Yip! You heard right! This psychological disorder is called BIID (Body Integrity Identity Disorder).

Now, if you think this is strange or wacko, there are actually psychos psychiatrists that say that the proper way to treat these people would be to acquiesce to their BIID demands! That is almost unbelievable!

The reason that I am not surprised at this lunacy of limb-ping, or even with those that want to "treat" them, is that I know what is in the heart of man. The Bible tells us that the heart of man is desperately wicked. It also tells us that we are born in sin. The difference between the Biblical diagnosis and the humanistic diagnosis is that the humanistic diagnosis does not offer any help here. It simply sees it as a psychological disorder. The Biblical diagnosis sees the heart of the problem as a matter of sin. That mankind can sink to such low levels as wanting to amputate itself, points to a culture that has become enamored with deviancy and death. Nihilistic tendencies abound, and limb-ping is just one of them.

The solution is not to consent to limb-ping, which simply exacerbates the problem, but to provide a deliverance from this "disorder." Love doesn't cut off a healthy limb! Only self-loathing can lead a person to limb-ping! Love will point to the Creator, Jesus Christ, and the fact that He alone can bring people to deal with their problems.

(13) For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. (14) I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. (Psa 139:13-14)

When we tell God that He made a mistake, and that we know better about ourselves, we effectively tell God that He failed. He doesn't!

Instead of destroying people's lives, real compassion will lead these people to a loving Christ, and not to a hop-along Cassidy life!

The most recent research into BIID shows compelling evidence that it is caused by a congenital defect in the part of the brain that processes body image. It's a neurological disorder. But whatever its origins, real compassion (since you are concerned about that) would prevent you calling people with a serious mental illness "nut jobs." Christians should be above this sort of derogatory mocking of those who have serious problems. Our Lord was compassionate with those who had all kinds of disorders mental and physical, and he did not call them unkind names.
